I often think of the Chinese phrase: “May you live in interesting times.” Now is one of those times. There are many reasons why, and now most of us are eye to eye with a future of uncertainty, and possibly strife. But I believe we are obligated to face these moments, not to be intimidated, or to hide.
So consider the idea of adventure. Adventure is dangerous, unusual, and exciting. It does not always end well, but if you endure, you will grow. If you can stand up to the wave, to the wind, to the opposition, to the challenge, you will test your limits and test the depth of the forces you stand against. Some say that to succeed, the biggest obstacle is yourself. Choosing to take the journey is the most important step in the adventure.
Adventures are not vacations. They are journeys. You don’t end an adventure where you started it, even if you return to the point of departure. Adventures change people. If they did not, that would mean there’s no point to them. If they did not, it would mean we are not capable of learning. Experience would have no value.
Forever Postage is an adventure. It is our love letter to adventure, sealed with a kiss. It is inspiring, disturbing, funny, strange, sad, and one hell of a ride. But if you decide to travel this aural journey, you will change. If you can endure, you will grow. And isn’t that why we are moving through time instead of remaining stuck and stagnant? Take this journey with us.
Forever Postage has twenty-six songs, and it’s around an hour long. You can listen to music for an hour, can’t you? I promise you will not get bored. Your ears and your mind will cover hundreds of years, thousands of miles, and worlds you have never known. The internal journeys are the ones that make the greatest difference.
The path this project makes will take you from Twizel, a small town in New Zealand to the Atlantic Ocean to the Carpathian Mountains to a snowy field on the prairie. You will visit literary characters like Quasimodo, Frankenstein, and Ahab, chasing his white whale. You will experience the shifted realities of dreaming, wishes, delusion, mathematics, semi-consciousness, split personality, and the final thoughts of a snowman in Summer. You will explore the intricacies of simple objects like “baby teeth”, vending machines, and mittens. You will travel from the sky to the beach to the innards of a factory to vast canyons to a quiet place on a rainy day.
